Double solo exhibition dedicated to MAURO BENDANDI e ANDREA PEZZI, winners of the art competition

CONTEMPORANEAMENTE SAPORI E ARTE 1ST EDITION

from August 24 to September 8, 2024

The Exhibition

The winners of the 1st edition of the Art Competition “Contemporaneamente sapori e arte”, who were awarded a solo exhibition at the Pallavicini 22 exhibition space, present themselves with different themes, with works conceived for this specific exhibition.

Mauro Bendandi, starting from his innate and refined ability as a designer, creates images of foods, dishes and tools used in our kitchens, using supports of traditional beige food paper or recycled dusting paper. The calligraphic presence of fragments of writing bring to mind old family recipe books, thus evoking memories common to all of us.

Andrea Pezzi exhibits the result of research into the history of his family during the last years of the Second World War. From Marradi, alone, he retraces the long path that his grandmother told him when he was a child, and with his camera he bears witness to his connection with that territory, mapping an experience of walking and landscape with steps tied to the land and memory.

The Artist

Mauro Bendandi after attending the Liceo Artistico of Ravenna, in 1996 he graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts of Bologna, where he attended the lessons of the painting course held by Massimo Pulini and immediately began his exhibition activity in various Italian cities. He has always had attention and passion for materials, painting on various supports including wood, wallpaper, polypropylene bags and sheet metal, which ends up being one of his favorite supports. He has always been attracted by the design of household objects, so much so that they have also become the main subjects of his paintings, in particular chandeliers, sockets and electrical switches. To these have been added artistic paths linked to floral subjects, chocolate, travel, the world of music and in recent years the world of food and wine

In the last period, drawing has taken over his activity, often intersecting with editorial and design projects. Precisely in this context his drawings are often linked to the city of Bologna, a city to which he is very committed, where he depicts San Luca, the towers and the porticoes. At the beginning of 2023 he began to draw some historic doors of the city of Bologna and almost at the same time the collaboration with the publishing house Woph! was born on the project dedicated to the doors of Bologna which resulted in the publication of the book Sub Signo Tauri  and the related 12 postcards.

In August 2023 he won the first prize ex aequo at the 1st CARP competition “Contemporaneamente Sapori e Arte” with the work “Addizione romagnola = I passatelli [dell’Erica]”.

At the beginning of 2024 “Neptunus – Il Gin Disegnato” was presented, a bottle for which he took care of the design and the graphics of the label and the concept in collaboration with Mosaico Spirits.

Over the years he has participated in numerous painting awards and exhibited in numerous public and private contexts in the most important Italian cities.

In recent years he has collaborated with various entities in the food and wine world and in the music field. Many critics, operators and art historians have written about him, including: Roberto Pagnani, Fulvio Chimento, Viola Giacometti, Denitza Nedkova, Aldo Savini, Serena Simoni, Maria Rita Bentini, Corrado Cati, Domenico Settevendemie, Solidea Ruggiero, Sabrina Foschini, Marinella Bonaffini.
