ALEJANDRO GARCÍA
Marea Nera
from 8 to 30 June 2024
The Exhibition
“Black Tide/Marea Nera” is a research and exhibition project developed at the Wilfredo Lam Contemporary Art Center in November 2023 with a focus on the object, printmaking and installation
In the conceptual development of his work, the artist refers to the resulting object as a cultural hybridization that reveals layers of history and multiplicity of influences. The installation focuses on the staging or mode of presentation and the use of printmaking as a discursive tool. Concepts such as space, installation or expansion will be constantly revisited as essential notions.
“Black Tide” is an investigation that is not intended to be closed. It is a synthesis of several formal and conceptual concerns over the past four years, but could be an expanding inquiry or simply a bridge to new research. As the title suggests, the tide is a movement of energy, marine current and aesthetics, combined with the symbolic silk-screened black, as constant for the moment in his creative process.
