DANIELE CESTARI

Ruggine, sale e vento

from 16 to 30 December 2023

The Exhibition

Daniele Cestari, architect and artist from Bondeno (Ferrara), expressly dedicates - as an act of love to the city of Ravenna - this exhibition held at Pallavicini 22.

The choice to propose the exhibition on the marine theme falls perfectly on the location of the gallery which is located right behind the dock, where the historic canal port of Ravenna ends. Like a sort of river, it is navigable from the sea exit to the heart of the city.

Cestari presents a series of works dedicated specifically to ships, almost always seen from the bow, so much so that they look like large noses moving as if in search of a well-defined destination: an "industrial olfactory".

These ships are made with misty colors alternating with brighter parts, such as grays that turn towards blue. There are many rust-colored drips that slide from the hull into the water, mixing the idea of the cargo that interpenetrates between the water and the sky.

Daniele Cestari has managed, through his port or naval representations, to also refer to smells, so much so that the spectator perceives those of rusty iron, greasy components, fuel and saltiness. A perception that is very difficult to convey in painting.

The Works

The Artist

Daniele Cestari was born in 1983. He graduated in architecture in 2009 and then dedicated himself to painting. His career as an artist is closely linked to his university studies in architecture, which he completed with a thesis in urban planning. In this context he developed a predilection for the physical aspect of the city and for the urban landscape by studying painting and photography.

He has held exhibitions in private galleries and public spaces in Italy and abroad (Boston, London, Amsterdam, Mykonos, Sofia, Buenos Aires, Toulouse). In 2011 he was invited to the Emilia Romagna regional pavilion for the 54th Venice Biennale and in 2014 he was invited to participate in the exhibition Portraits of the City – Urban Sceneries curated by Flaminio Gualdoni at Villa Olmo in Como. Among his latest personal exhibitions are those held in Montalcino, Boston (USA) and Varese.
