GIANNI MANTOVANI

Il giorno che verrà

From 12 to 27 November 2022

The Exhibition

The exhibition on the work of Gianni Mantovani, with a critical text by Antonio Enrico Maria Giordano in the catalog, displays a series of pictorial works inspired by the environment, affirming the sensitivity towards Nature rooted for decades in the Modenese artist. Landscapes, flowers and nature are represented through primary and essential forms that feed on memories and a dreamy vision.

The leitmotif of the canvases on display is the landscape on a red background, symbolizing the artist's cry against global warming on planet Earth and worrying and increasingly accelerated climate changes.

The titles chosen by Gianni Mantovani for the works on display (Appoggiarsi alla bellezza del cielo; Accarezzare il cielo; La bellezza non ha confini; L’infinito delle forme; Orizzonte di luce; Luce di stelle; La luce che è in noi; È già mattino; È un giorno bellissimo; Paese mio; Il sorriso di un fiore; Giardini Margherita) evoke feelings, the beauty of life, dreams and a confident and hopeful vision of creation.

The Artist

Gianni Mantovani was born in Concordia (Modena) in 1950, where he still lives today.

He studied at the Art Institute of Modena and later at the Academy of Fine Arts in Bologna.

In 1974 he began teaching Painting Disciplines at the Liceo Artistico in Bologna and since 1994 he has been a tenured teacher of "Painting" and later of "Drawing" at the Academy of Fine Arts in Bologna.

The 90s saw Mantovani become passionate about Tribal Art, and in particular to African art. This interest contributes significantly to accelerate a creative turn that was already in the air and the new paintings are crowded with simple and fantastic images.

Among others, writings and critical notes were dedicated to him by: Renato Barilli, Mario Bertoni, Luigina Bortolatto, Lucio Cabutti, Maria Campitelli, Toti Carpentieri, Renata Casarin, Giorgio Celli, Claudio Cerritelli, Vittoria Coen, Diego Collovini, Giorgio Cortenova, Enrico Crispolti , Miriam Cristaldi, Roberto Daolio, Gianfranco Ferlisi, Michele Fuoco, Armando Ginesi, Antonio E.
